The inclusion of pregnant women in public health emergency vaccine trials

Ethics Working Group, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Working Group

12th European Congress on Tropical Medicine And International Health

Conference track 9. Sexual, reproductive and child health and rights

In this session organised by the Maternal, Newborn & Child Health and Ethics Working Groups of the COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition, we plan to explore the ethical implications of the inclusion of pregnant women in vaccine trials to provide a framework through which future policy decisions can be made. We also plan to provide practical guidance regarding the appropriate timing and vaccine types for such trials in order to maximise safety for the mother and baby, while providing rigorous data regarding the immunogenicity of the vaccine in this cohort.
