Post-COVID-19 condition in low-and-middle-income countries: a pilot study

A multi-country pilot project to assess the feasibility of data collection in multiple countries, generating a preliminary estimate of the burden of post-COVID-19 condition and informing a full-scale study proposal.

Led by Dr Juan Carlos Villar, co-chair of the Clinical Epidemiology Working Group of the COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition, the general aims of the project are:

  1. To provide a valid estimate of the magnitude and diversity of patient-related outcomes
  2. To provide original contribution to knowledge on post-COVID-19 condition from underrepresented populations
  3. To serve as a platform for a robust, globally representative study on post-COVID-19 condition
  4. To build capacity for future research, including randomised control trials
  5. To create an active network to tackle future research challenges

The objectives of the pilot study on post-COVID-19 condition in research centres and institutions in low- and middle-income countries are to:

  1. Test the feasibility of data collection under the same protocol
  2. Generate a preliminary estimate of the burden of post-COVID-19 condition
  3. Contribute to informing a larger full-scale study proposal
  4. Build capacity to participate in future trials of post-COVID-19 condition treatment candidates

Study Population
Patients tested for SARS-CoV-2 infection with PCR [+/-] and exhibiting diverse clinical severity of disease (severe, mild, asymptomatic).
